Green by Default

Green by Default (GBD) is empowering communities to act on climate and reduce emissions. The 100% renewable energy default has proven to be one of the easiest, most cost-effective, and significant policy tools to achieve rapid decarbonization. When entire populations are automatically enrolled in clean energy for their electricity supply, it moves the needle. Since GBD started in 2018, close to 40 cities and counties in California have transitioned to clean energy, eliminating over 9 million tons of GHG emissions and over $1 billion in social carbon costs. GBD is on a mission to mitigate further climate breakdown by bringing clean energy to more communities in California and beyond.
