In 2009 the Orlando Police Department established a youth mentoring program, Operation Positive Direction. This program seeks out middle and high school students who face social, economic and academic challenges in an effort set them on successful paths for their future. The program includes mentoring, tutoring, community service, goal setting and incentives for success.
Operation Positive Direction assigns one police officer per student to mentor and monitor their success. Students participate in a variety of community service and life skills events monthly. Some of our activities to date include painting homes for senior citizens, a life management class, an etiquette class, visiting senior citizens in nursing homes and educational tours to locations throughout the country.
We have a variety of events planned that focus on positive development of our teens. We are committed to our youth and we want to positively change the course of their lives. We need support from the community to accomplish great things and create positive influences for our future leaders.
