The Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) is the largest private nonprofit funder of melanoma research worldwide, accelerating the science that is changing what is possible for patients.

Since 2007, MRA has invested more than $200 million in melanoma research, supporting more than 565 research projects at 165 institutions. MRA-funded scientists are advancing breakthroughs across melanoma prevention, early detection, treatment, metastasis, rare melanomas, and survivorship—and their discoveries are helping inform progress across cancer research.

The impact has been extraordinary. Since MRA was founded, 20 new treatments for melanoma have received FDA approval, transforming a disease that once had few effective treatment options. Today, more patients are living longer and benefiting from advances pioneered in melanoma research.

Melanoma can affect anyone. It is diagnosed across ages, backgrounds, professions, and lifestyles—and its impact extends far beyond the individual patient to families, friends, colleagues, and communities.

But the work is far from finished. More than 100,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with invasive melanoma each year, and too many patients with advanced or rare forms of the disease still lack effective treatment options.
