One in five Iraqi children work to support their families or themselves, and 80% of all Iraqi children experience violence at home or in school. They are why ICF exists: to intervene on their behalf with love and hope.
The Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to caring for Iraqi orphans, street kids, displaced children, child laborers, and other very vulnerable children. It is led by a Board of Directors that draws from American business, veterans, child welfare experts, and Iraqi-Americans.
ICF partners with trusted Iraqi non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to implement life changing projects such as:
(1) Street Lawyers to provide legal protect and representation to children detained by police or exploited by criminals and traffickers, and also to help kids get missing legal IDs that are required to enroll in school or get government benefits;
(2) Social workers to help children stop working, get health care, intervene with families in cases of abuse, or assist in reentry to home and community when released from detention.
(3) Hope Buses that provided education, child nutrition, hygiene, and psycho-social services.
(4) Training and mentoring for Iraqi adult caregivers to address issues related to child trauma and abuse in the home.
ICF is top-rated Platinum on Guidestar – www.guidestar.org – for its transparency. ICF also maintains the highest rating of 4 stars on Charity Navigator- www.charitynavigator.org. Ambassadors of Iraq to the United States have served as Honorary Chairmen of ICF’s annual “In Their Shoes” 5K event in the Washington, D.C., area to raise funds for Iraqi children, and former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom Ryan Crocker serves on ICF's Advisory Board. On Arab-American Day in 2018, ICF received a public appreciation award from the Arab League Representative in Washington, DC.
