It is our goal to promote the enjoyment of traditional American dance by organizing regularly scheduled dances which are inclusive, inter-generational and community-building. We connect and support people in building and sustaining vibrant communities through participatory dance, music, and song. We steward the living traditions of Contra and square dance, and the music that is an integral part of these traditions.
In the context of CDSS, cultural equity encompasses the values, policies, and practices that ensure that all people have access to the dance, music, and song traditions defined in our mission. This includes the fair distribution of programmatic, financial, and informational resources, as well as a responsibility to research and share the complete history of the traditions we support.
