POVERELLO CENTER INC

MISSOULA, Montana

The Poverello Center provides food, shelter, help and hope to all who ask. In the last five decades, our organization has grown from a simple food support mission to a lifelong cause – working to alleviate the experience of poverty and houselessness in our Missoula community. We provides education, advocacy, and a multitude of services to improve the health, well-being, and stability of people struggling with poverty in Missoula. We believe all people deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of their housing status. We envision a collaborative and supportive community in which everyone has a safe place to call home. Since the Poverello Center opened in 1974, we have served over 4 million meals and since we opened our shelter in 1981, we have provided nearly 1 million nights of shelter to our unhoused neighbors. We started by offering one meal, one-day-a-week. The Poverello Center now offers Emergency Shelter to 300 people per night, 365 days per year. This is more than just a bed - it includes services that are the foundation to dignity - showers, toiletries, laundry, access to phones, and a medical clinic. Food programs - 3 nutritious meals per day to anyone in need, sack lunches provide food while our guests are on the job, and a food pantry. Food services are used by neighbors who may not need housing, but are struggling in poverty. Medical Respite - a safe place to recover from a medical crisis, most often surgery. Homeless Outreach (HOT) - Provides food, gear, support, and connection to unhoused individuals around the community Veteran Housing - Up to 2 years of housing and full support to eligible Veterans The Poverello Center is a critical piece of Missoula’s safety net. It is a warm welcome in the first step back into housing once our neighbors experience a crisis.
