COLUMBUS HOUSE

The goal is to end homelessness by supporting individuals, families with children, Veterans, and senior citizens with outreach, shelter and meals, housing and services. People experiencing homelessness, or at risk of becoming homeless, are connected to health, social, housing, job readiness, income related services, and with case management. Columbus House works in four Connecticut counties in the United States: Hartford, Middlesex, New Haven, and New London.

Up to 3,000 persons experiencing homelessness are served each year. Columbus House works in partnership with communities and other health and human services providers to foster clients personal growth and independence and to find affordable housing.

Columbus House operates shelters, family shelters, permanent supportive housing, an Employment Enrichment Center, Veterans' services, and a Respite Program for those experiencing homelessness being discharged from the hospital. In addition, street outreach and engagement is offered to those who are experiencing homelessness, but are to date reluctant to receive services and shelter. An overflow shelter is also provided throughout colder months in Connecticut.

Clients are offered case management services. Case managers help clients connect to services and resources that they are eligible for, and support clients in setting goals and a plan for becoming independent and having a place to call home.
