Since 1997, Lifesavers, Inc. otherwise known as Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue, a California non-profit corporation, has provided refuge, training and adoption placement for hundreds of horses. It has become the largest wild horse rescue and adoption organization in the United States. Currently there are more than 400 rescued horses under the organization’s care. Lifesavers is dedicated to saving American mustangs and domestic horses from abuse, neglect and slaughter through a variety of outreach programs.

In addition to rescue, adoption and sanctuary of its horses, Lifesavers offers educational hands-on workshops and clinics under its Happy Horse Academy program. These workshops and clinics teach natural horsemanship methods and techniques to horse owners and adopters in hopes that better understanding of horses will prevent their horses from having to be rescued in the future.

Lifesavers also has cutting edge Horse Inspired Growth and Healing (HIGH) and Horse Inspired Psychotherapy (HIP) programs designed to serve at-risk youth, ex-gang member groups, substance abuse recovery groups, and American veterans with PTSD. Partners and participants include The Wounded Warrior Project, Homeboys Industries, and Raven Drum Foundation. Lifesavers’ Red Horse Nation program has started many Native American tribal horse healing programs on reservations such as the Navajo Nation, Pueblo Laguna, Blackfoot and others.

Lifesavers cares for hundreds of rescued horses between its California ranch and sanctuaries and the need is ever-increasing. The sad reality is that there is no shortage of abused, abandoned, neglected and slaughter-bound horses in need of aid. Lifesavers strives to help these horses not just by providing refuge and medical care, but by finding new lifetime homes for the horses, and fostering lifetime learning, understanding, healing and advocacy among humans.
