WYOMING SENIOR CITIZENS INC

Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc. (WSCI), founded in April 1975, is a private non-profit organization whose purpose is to meet the needs Wyoming's older residents and help them maintain their independence.

This includes helping the elderly, disabled, and program eligible residents through seven invaluable federal and state programs. During this tenure the focus has always been on people to promote a fair, equitable, and diverse program no matter the race, ethnicity, sexual preference, disability, Veteran status, or chosen identity of the volunteer or client.

WSCI has managed federal funds since 1975 beginning with the Job Partnership Training Act and the Senior Community Service Employment Program. Each staff has a clearly defined job description. WSCI prides itself in its long-standing reputation of helping seniors.

WSCI continues the mission of serving Wyoming's senior communities through the following major programs:

1. Wyoming State Health Insurance Information Program - Since 1994: The known and trusted community resource to educate and assist Medicare-eligible individuals through unbiased counseling to make informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits. Trained counselors provide understanding of Medicare, prescription drug plans, Medicaid, Medicare supplement and long-term care insurance. Services are offered across the state.

2. Senior Medicare Patrol Program -- Since 1997: Senior Medicare Patrols (SMPs) empower and assist Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse through outreach, counseling, and education. Services are offered across the state.

3. Senior Companion Program -- Since 1984: Serve as a friend and companion to older neighbors making sure they can live in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Senior Companion program focuses on providing assistance and friendship to older adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as shopping or paying bills. Through this program, AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers keep seniors independent longer and provide respite to family caregivers. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers themselves report better health and longevity having served their community. Services are offered across the state.

4. Long Term Care Ombudsman Program -- Since 1993: Long Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman work to resolve problems related to the health, safety, welfare, and rights of individuals who live in LTC facilities, such as nursing homes, board and care and assisted living facilities, and other residential care communities. Ombudsman work to promote policies and consumer protections to improve long-term services and supports at the facility, local, state, and national levels. Services are offered across the state.

5. National Family Caregiver Support Program -- Since 2001: The National Family Caregiver Support Program helps adults 18 and over who are caregivers for a loved one 60 years of age or older or for someone of any age who has Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia condition. Services include education, training, support and respite care for family of elderly, chronically ill or hospice patients.
WSCI provides services through this program in Big Horn, Carbon, Converse, Fremont, Goshen, Hot Springs, Laramie, and Natrona Counties.

6. Foster Grandparent Program -- Since 2014: Foster Grandparents help guide students to higher academic achievement. Care for premature infants or children with disabilities. Mentor troubled teenagers and young mothers. The Foster Grandparent program connects role models like you with young people with exceptional needs.

AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who serve with in the Foster Grandparent program provide the kind of comfort and love that sets a child on a path to a successful future. AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers themselves report better health and longevity having served their community. WSCI provides services through this program in Big Horn, Fremont, Natrona, Park, and Washakie Counties.

7. Wyoming Home Services Program -- Since 2018: The Wyoming Home Services (WyHS) program is used to provide services to those qualified individuals who are at risk of premature institutionalization. These services are designed to keep people in the least restrictive environment for as long as possible. WSCI provides services through this program in Park and Fremont Counties.

The organization has robust fiscal and personnel policies to ensure program and fiscal compliance and oversight (statues, regulations, and applicable OMB circulars). The cornerstone of compliance and fiscal management is the separation of duties and adherence to policy and statute to minimize the risk of oversight, fraud, or theft. In addition, the agency has undergone an annual fiscal audit every year for the past 23 years.

WSCI is dedicated to, and passionate about, services to the elderly and are providing services to over 15,000 adults every year. WSCI has been successful in managing and reporting impact-based programming. The staff at WSCI are trained on maintaining confidentiality of volunteer and client information to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training.

The regular office hours are 7 a.m. -- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday excluding State and Federal holidays.
