Daniel Prude Memorial Fund: Support Daniel's family in this time of crisis.

von SOLIDARIEDADE NA MOKILI

Daniel Prude, a 41-year-old Black man in need of mental health assistance, was murdered by Rochester, New York police in March. The warehouse worker was 41 years old at the time of his death on March 30, 2020. According to his brother, Joe, Daniel suffered from mental health issues . Joe called the police again. He explained that Daniel was experiencing a mental health crisis, that his brother was naked in the street, and that he was only a danger to himself. Joe begged the responding police officers not to kill his brother. They didn't listen. They knelt on his back and pushed his face to the ground for so long that Daniel stopped breathing — just like how police officers in Minneapolis murdered George Floyd in the street. One thing was appallingly clear: George Floyd and Daniel Prude’s inexcusable death was a spark applied to a field that has burst into flame. And the words “I can’t breathe,” ignored by the police officers, have deep meaning to thousands upon thousands of Black people and their allies. Also clear was this: There is no room for excuses or equivocations. No place for silence or inaction. And no tolerance for misapplied criticism, for there is no "right way” to protest against racism, especially after decades of systemic injustice and indifference. Please donate to support Daniel's family in this time of crisis.
