Atascadero Loaves & Fishes \dba ALF Food Pantry has been providing essential groceries to households in need throughout Northern San Luis Obispo County, CA, (SLO County) since 1984. ALF Food Pantry serves residents of Atascadero, Templeton, Santa Margarita, Creston, and the California Valley. The regular operating hours of the ALF Food Pantry daily on weekdays assures that our service is consistently accessible. The Food Pantry is staffed entirely by volunteers. We are a nonsectarian, non-profit 501(c)3 California Corporation serving any and all persons wishing assistance without regard to gender, ethnicity, marital status or sexual orientation. The Pantry is continually restocked with groceries and supplies from the SLO Food Bank, local groceries stores, gleaning, and in-kind donations.
ALF Food Pantry is one of the longest operating non-profits in SLO County and has continually demonstrated the capacity for operating the pantry and distributing groceries. The households we serve include veterans, the elderly, the disabled, and children.
ALF Food Pantry clients may obtain groceries two times each month. Groceries are pre- packed with eggs, milk, and produce added at the time of pick up. The amounts are determined by family size. As an example, families of 1-2 receive a dozen eggs; 2 dozen are provided to families of 3-4. In 2023, 4,205 unduplicated individuals were served; a 25% increase from the previous year. Nearly 58,000 pounds of food was provided to individuals and families needing assistance. About 1/3 of our clients are children.
