You Eat I Eat Community Unity Food Pantry Corp (YEIE) is a 501c (3) Organization with State and Federal authorization to conduct business as a not for profit charity which may accept tax deductible donations and contributions. We are to no degree subsidized by the government and all operating costs are met by private tax deductible donations and Fund Raising Events.
In addition to supplying dry goods, canned goods, clothing etc to an average of 300 people weekly, we provide hot and well balanced Meals To Go twice weekly beginning the second week of each month. In 2019 well over 7500 Meals-To-Go were served.
Thanks to the sponsorship of several local organizations we also have our Pizza @ The Pantry After School Feeding Program for children in the area. We recognize that many children may be subjected to so called "lunch shaming" at their schools. Through no fault of their own they may not have lunch money on a given day. It may also be that dinner may consist of very little and may be not be readily available for some children. Pizza @ The Pantry will at least put something in bellies which might otherwise remain empty for several hours after school.
Additionally, we have our annual Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners. Unlike our weekly Meal-To-Go, several dining tables and chairs are set up on Pantry property. Each setting accommodates six to eight.
A few weeks before Easter we ask the community for donations of Easter baskets and small items and candies with which the baskets will be filled. The baskets are prepped, filled and wrapped by our volunteers. They are later given out to small children during the Easter Dinner.
As Thanksgiving Day approaches we request and receive donations of whole turkeys. Some of turkeys and donated hams are prepared along with donated "fixin's" and served on Pantry property. For many of the homeless in the area, this is the Thanksgiving Dinner they would likely never have had. Additionally, many of the donated and unpacked turkeys are given out families who may otherwise not have had the traditional Thanksgiving Dinner.
We also have our annual Toy Drive leading up to Christmas. Thanks to Toy Drives held by local schools, Toys For Tots and private parties we collected enough toys to allow many children to have their choices of three to four toys each. Christmas Dinner is preceded by a visit with Santa where children receive donated new and unwrapped toys in our Pantry Winter Wonderland.
We also take part in many Public Events in the El Paso area. Such examples would include participating in:
(1) The Department of Veterans' Affairs Stand-Down Event. This is an outreach program designed to bring information and assistance to El Paso's military community. Some of the homeless in and around El Paso are Veterans. While we provide our services to anyone who may call upon us, it is of particular pride to provide our community a venue via which it can give back to those who have given so much but have lost all. The Stand-Down Event allows us to come into contact with many Veterans. We provide them with information on how they may go about receiving help from You Eat I Eat Community Unity Food Pantry and other local organizations.
The Stand-Down Event has also put us in contact with Active Duty Personnel who may be in need of assistance in stretching their food dollar. Some of those soldiers in need have come into the pantry after having heard about You Eat I Eat from some of their colleagues who attended the Stand-Down Event at one time or another.
(2) We have also joined with the El Paso Homeless Coalition. With this organization we have gathered and provided clothing to local shelters. In particular is our "Coats for Kids" Program. Towards the end of Fall and throughout Winter we emphasize to the citizens of El Paso the need to collect warm clothing for our homeless children.
