Boots2Roots helps active-duty military members, Veterans, and military spouses successfully transition to living and working in Maine. We begin working with service members up to 12–18 months before they leave active duty, providing personalized support that helps them translate their military experience, pursue meaningful civilian careers, and establish strong roots in Maine.
Our approach recognizes that a successful military transition involves much more than finding a job. Boots2Roots provides individualized career coaching, resume development, interview preparation, networking opportunities, and connections to Maine employers seeking the leadership, technical expertise, adaptability, and work ethic military talent brings to the workforce.
One of the greatest challenges transitioning service members face is communicating military experience in language civilian employers understand. Our coaches help Teammates identify their transferable skills and confidently demonstrate how their military leadership, technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and experience translate into value for civilian organizations. We then connect them with employers and professional networks throughout Maine, helping create pathways to careers that match their skills, interests, and long-term goals.
Boots2Roots also recognizes that employment is only one part of a successful transition. We connect Teammates and their families with trusted community resources that can assist with financial readiness, housing, healthcare, Veterans' services, and other needs associated with relocating and establishing a new life in Maine. These connections help military families move beyond simply finding employment to becoming part of the communities where they live and work.
Our early-intervention, Maine-focused model benefits both military families and the state. Transitioning service members bring years of leadership, training, education, technical expertise, and diverse professional experience. By helping them build their next careers in Maine, Boots2Roots strengthens Maine employers, communities, and the state's workforce while helping military families successfully navigate one of the most significant transitions of their lives.
Boots2Roots provides all services at no cost to our Teammates or employer partners. Donations directly support the personalized coaching, employer engagement, and community connections that make these successful transitions possible.
Goals
Our goal is not simply to help Veterans find jobs—it is to help military families build successful, sustainable lives in Maine. We measure that success by helping our Teammates:
Find meaningful employment within two months of arriving in Maine.
Remain in their first post-military position for at least 12 months.
Build the professional and community connections necessary to successfully establish roots in Maine.
When military talent chooses Maine, everyone benefits: the service member, their family, Maine employers, and Maine communities.
