Program 1 - Backpack to School Bash (Bash)
IMPACT Texas hosts an annual Backpack to School Bash (Bash) in Pflugerville. This program service includes providing backpacks filled with school supplies to underserved students who attend Title 1 schools where 50% of the students live below the federal poverty level (FPL) and we serve students who live in affordable housing communities. We held our first Bash in 2014, prior to the Corporation receiving their IRS tax exempt status. This program service of IMPACT Texas is provided annually between June through August. IMPACT Texas is excited to announce we will host our Annual Backpack to School Bash Houston/Rosenberg at as a partner of Lamar Consolidated School District and our Annual Backpack to School Bash Pflugerville at the Pflugerville Public Library. Bash in Temple is a drop off distribution.
Annually IMPACT Texas announces the Bash through an online registration by using PeachJar, which is an electronic flyer distribution service used by many Independent School District (ISD), 211-Texas, on the Corporation Facebook page at https://www.Facebook.com/impacttexas2015 and on the website at https://www.impact-texas.org. Families are required to complete the online registration prior to the Bash. This program service of IMPACT Texas is annually between June - August.
The students and families who are registered to attend IMPACT Texas Backpack to School Bash participate in a positive and safe community with an array of program activities such as visiting the IMPACT Nutrition station where 50% of the families receive a nutrition bag and students receive healthy snacks, fruit, and beverages. The students may visit various stations such as the toiletries where they receive dental goody bags assuring healthy teeth through good oral hygiene yields overall health benefits, hygiene packs which includes bar soap or bath gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion and youth first aid kits. Students may have their cute faces painted, stopping by the “all about me” arts and crafts where children display their artistic abilities, playing the prize wheel and winning a lot of cool prizes. Students love taking pictures at the photo booth while posing with their new backpacks. IMPACT Texas remains grateful for the support from the affordable housing communities and the Public Library which offers a safe and clean environment for us to host our Bash, due to the support of the City and County students and their families may tour the fire engine and patrol cars too.
IMPACT Texas invites nurses to attend the Bash to focus on health and wellness by providing screenings; blood pressure and pulse rate checks for the adults who are in attendance. To strengthen the families in attendance, IMPACT Texas invites staff from various Medicaid Health Plans to participate during the Bash by providing social service resources and referrals for individuals receiving Medicaid or who are eligible for Medicaid medical services.
