Racing4Vets assists service-disabled U.S. military veterans and their families dealing with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and physical injuries. Our programs utilizes amateur motorsports and the motorsports community to assist injured veterans by offering occupational therapy, mechanical career training, team building, social support and camaraderie. We help service-disabled veterans get directly involved in amateur motorsports for rehabilitation, career development and amateur competition opportunities.
Racing4Vets has two main goals:
1) Develop motorsports career training, rehabilitation and industry outreach programs for service disabled U.S. military veterans.
2) Provide opportunities for disabled veterans to compete safely in amateur motorsports.
Our programs are participation-based, requiring regular attendance, defined roles, tasks and responsibilities tailored to each individual Veteran's needs and capabilities. We do not offer "hero for a day" or "arrive and drive" programs. Rather, our programs require active participation, teamwork and commitment from each individual Veteran. In return, Veterans are provided with numerous opportunities to participate in activities related to motorsports such as indoor karting, mechanical training, vehicle building and maintenance, attendance at motorsports-oriented events, and amateur competition. These activities are tailored to each Veteran's individual needs and participation level.
Racing4Vets has an "open door policy" which encourages participation and allows Veterans to work toward their developmental goals in a supportive environment. Most of our programs are led by service-disabled Veterans. This provides a valuable bridge between military and civilian life, and understanding and guidance from experienced Veterans with similar disabilities.
Racing4Vets offers 3 levels of participation in a ladder-type system. These levels ensure our programs are accessible to Veterans with a wide variety of service-related disabilities:
- Level 1 focuses on providing occupational therapy, community integration and social support to Veterans and their families dealing with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and physical injuries.
- Level 2 focuses on mechanical training and career opportunities. Veterans learn to build and maintain competition vehicles, run a race shop and operate an amateur racing team at competition events. Skills learned include fabrication, maintenance, logistics, sponsorship, motorsports industry relationship building, PR, fundraising and more.
- Level 3 focuses on amateur competition opportunities. Veterans who meet the necessary health and work participation requirements are placed on a team of Veterans. Our Veteran-run teams build their own karts and automobiles with the support of the local motorsports business community, and earn the opportunity to compete in safe amateur competitions.
Racing4Vets programs are open to all service-disabled veterans, regardless of race, sex, sexual preference, religion, disability, etc.
