Habitat for Humanity Capital Region is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that everyone in Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton Counties has a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. Rooted in the belief that housing is a foundation for opportunity, Habitat partners with families and individuals to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Through its Homeownership and Construction Program, Habitat builds modest, high-quality homes in partnership with qualified homebuyers who demonstrate need, the ability to pay an affordable mortgage, and the willingness to contribute “sweat equity” alongside volunteers. These homes are sold through affordable financing that keeps monthly payments manageable, making long-term homeownership both possible and sustainable for working families.
In addition to building new homes, Habitat for Humanity Capital Region serves hundreds of residents each year through its Ramp Program, which provides safe, accessible entry into homes for seniors, people with disabilities, and anyone facing mobility challenges. These ramps restore independence, reduce household hazards, and allow residents to remain safely in the homes and neighborhoods they love.
The organization also operates a robust Critical Home Repair Program that helps low- and moderate-income homeowners address serious health, safety, and structural issues that threaten the stability or habitability of their homes. By repairing roofs, porches, siding, windows, doors, furnaces, water heaters, steps, and other essential elements, Habitat not only protects existing affordable housing stock but also helps residents—many of whom are seniors, veterans, or families living on fixed incomes—remain safely housed and avoid displacement.
Together, these three programs form a comprehensive approach to affordable housing: building new opportunities for homeownership, preserving the homes people already have, and ensuring that every family in the Capital Region can live with dignity, safety, and stability. Through partnerships with donors, volunteers, community organizations, and the families themselves, Habitat for Humanity Capital Region strengthens neighborhoods, uplifts lives, and expands access to the transformational power of safe, decent housing.
