Since 2009, the Veterans Museum Miami Valley Inc , operating under the DBA of the Miami Valley Veterans Museum has strived to implement its mission “To Honor, Preserve, and Perpetuate the Legacy of Veterans of the Miami Valley.” Our mission focuses on the history of the men and women from the Ohio Miami Valley who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in all periods and places and to provide a space to tell their stories.
The Miami Valley Veterans Museum also serves as a long-term repository for artifacts, photos, over 250 oral histories of Veterans and other objects of significance to local veterans and their families. We offers a place for veterans to connect with each other and rediscover the comradely of their shared experiences. We strive to connect young people and adults with local veterans through a variety of educational programming and community outreach endeavors that serves 7 Ohio counties, Miami, Darke, Shelby, Champaign, Clark, Greene and Montgomery.
The location of our currently museum has recently been sold in downtown Troy, Ohio. The building has been sold and we have outgrown the location. We have identified a new site south of Troy, Ohio located close to I-75 on one of the major highways in Miami County, Ohio. The address is 2245 S. County Rd. 25A,Troy,Ohio45373. The 5-acer site has 4 handicap accessible buildings and expands our space 4 fold. The cost of the purchase of the property and needed renovations and upgrades is projected at $1,700,000.00. We have raised $250,000.00 with the support of The Troy Foundation and many donors. We are moving the collection to the NEW museum site on Oct 10, 2020.
Many of our fundraising plans for this past spring and summer have hit detours with the COVID-19 crisis. We are continuing to fundraise by holding a car raffle, applying to foundations, emergency funding sources through local, state and federal grants but we need additional support. We would appreciate any support that you can offer to help us meet our goal. We have an established a Capital Campaign fund with The Troy Foundation called the Miami Valley Veterans Museum Fund. Donations may be mailed to : The Troy Foundation, 216 W. Franklin Street, Troy, Ohio,45373 . or by contacting the Troy Foundation(937)216-339-8935.
