SNEAKING AROUND is a short, 30-minute narrative film written and directed by me, Emily A. Meehan, and made possible in part through student work and equipment from San Francisco City College. It is in production at present, with four shooting days completed, and has 17 shooting days remaining. I will submit the final product to Cinefondation, the student film competition at Cannes Film Festival. The first chapter of the film is in the edit and will be screened for donors at the Little Roxie Theater in San Francisco when the edit is done. I raised $2500 through selling photography to fund the first four days of production, and have a donor base as a result.
The cast and crew of the film are San Francisco residents, both students and professionals. It stars Natalia Dominguez and MB Weider. The story is of a romance between an older venture capitalist named Kay, who is in a marriage of convenience to a man, and her younger girlfriend Lyric, a barista, who she met on Tinder and installs in her spare apartment (that is normally rented out on AirBnb.) It is a drama about the troubling consequences of power imbalances in relationships, lesbian love, the wealth gap in San Francisco, and tech in the changing Bay Area society and economy. It also features the sea, nature in the city limits, and themes of Greek mythology, such as the role of nymphs in the lives of the gods.
