The mission of the Museum of Black Joy is to celebrate, cultivate, commemorate, and circulate stories that center Black Joy. The MOBJ is currently conceived and operated as an interactive archive, a hybrid exhibition space, and living document of non-traumatic Black life in Philadelphia and beyond, using traditional and non-traditional storytelling and emerging technologies to acknowledge and advance experiences rooted in Black Joy. With a comprehensive fund-raising plan, MOBJ is interested in moving into a brick and mortar museum space to facilitate community focused exhibitions and programs, including our signature event: The Black Joy Symposium.
