NATIONAL SERVICE DOG TRAINING ACADEMY
CHARLOTTE, North CarolinaThe National Service Dog Training Academy is a non-profit (501(c)(3)), public charity located in the Charlotte, North Carolina metro area and in Southeast Missouri. NSDTA provides specialized training for canines and individuals with disabilities to improve quality of life, self-worth, and dignity. We've established a level of excellence in training for both humans and their canine service dogs for public access, medical facility, and transport, all for the purpose of providing a medical or task related service for the handler or person with a disability. Our goal is to select rescued, unwanted or breeder release dogs, evaluate their potential through our 250-point Behavior and Public Access Assessment System (BPAAS), and pair animals with PWDs.
The National Service Dog Training Academy also trains dogs that are already homed with persons with disabilities and ready for advanced Therapy Dog training. Our dogs volunteer in nursing homes, Veteran's homes, go to work with their handlers in hospice and home health care settings, and even live in nursing homes.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of 7 Members and can be petitioned by applicants requesting financial aid through an application process. Only Veterans or individuals deemed "disabled" by the Federal government are able to apply for funding for training fees, with rare exceptions.
