WOVEN

by INDEPENDENT ARTS & MEDIA

WOVEN is a collective of Black and brown Lesbian artists residing on unceded Ohlone land (the Bay Area). Our mission is to co-create visual, written, and performing art in order to contribute to the collective memory of revolutionary Lesbians such as Cheryl Clarke, Gloria Anzaldúa, Kitty Tsui and Audre Lorde. As a continuation of the intersecting legacies from which we stem, we are committed to fostering interdependence between each other and the communities in which we live.

Our core values are: (1) Creating art as both an act of resistance and a contribution to the collective memory of revolutionary BIPOC Lesbians, (2) Cultivating a safe haven and community for BIPOC Lesbians in which we can foster interdependence, and (3) Practicing Lesbianism as a direct opposition to western capitalist-patriarchy’s attempts to control our bodies, our relationships, and our communities
