Healing and Justice, Support and Education, and Training and Literacy are the three pillars of Brigid Collins services. It's through these areas (in which we provide multiple, evidence-based services) that we heal children, bring abusers to justice, build healthy and strong families, and teach every adult that we all have a responsibility to protect children. Our multi-pronged approach is attacking the scourge of child abuse, ending a problem that has haunted our world for generations.
Our nationally accredited Children’s Advocacy Centers are child-friendly, child-focused facilities that use a multidisciplinary approach to the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. Our partners at both the Whatcom and Skagit County Centers include law enforcement, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services, the Department of Health and Human Services, and local Prosecutors Offices. The Children’s Advocacy Centers reduce trauma to children, increase access for children and families to services like therapy and support, and coordinate investigative and intervention services working on child abuse cases.
While the Children's Advocacy Centers provide healing after sexual abuse has occurred, we also seek to provide parents and caregivers the support and guidance to avoid physical abuse and neglect. For new parents who have come from generations of abuse or neglect or just unskilled parents, quality parenting education is key to building healthy families and parent child relationships.
“I live in a different home now,” said a parent who recently graduated from a parenting skills program. Parenting education changes people’s lives—both children and parents by bringing them together and giving children their best possible chance for a bright future. At the same time, parenting education reduces family stress, increases protective factors against child abuse and has a lasting impact on children’s health and education. Brigid Collins is the leading provider of evidence-based parenting programs in the state of Washington.
Finally, We believe that every adult has a responsibility to protect children. Because of that, we work with individuals, organizations, businesses and local and state governments to change how adults interact with children. Prevention Services include:
- Stewards of Children Training (nationally recognized child sexual abuse prevention training).
- Adult-Child-Youth Safety Policy development
- Coalition-building of organizations, community leaders and individuals invested in protecting children
