Sudan Response

by Medical Teams International

On April 15th, 2023 sudden and unexpected fighting started and spread quickly in Khartoum — the capital city — and in some other parts of the country. As a result, people in Khartoum are staying inside, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire. Bombing, shelling, and looting are happening throughout the city. Already, the health care needs from the war and unrest are massive — seven health facilities have been bombed in Khartoum, and 54 of the 59 health facilities in Khartoum are reported to be incapacitated.

Since 2021, Medical Teams has worked in Sudan with their main country office in Khartoum. They are on the front lines of care for people in Sudan, including Ethiopian refugees, their mobile medical teams, offering compassion to people living through this terrifying event. Medical Teams provides life-saving care in Sudan by continuing programs in refugee camps, deploying mobile medical teams for new internally displaced arrivals, and supporting targeted health and nutrition facilities that are overwhelmed with supplies and equipment.
