Serenity House of Clallam County was founded as a shelter in 1982. The agency has since grown to encompass several programs dedicated to fighting homelessness within the community. These programs include housing, youth programs, case management, referral services, homelessness prevention, and diversion assistance designed to help keep clients off the streets. Serenity House reaches people at any stage of their housing journey and guides them toward permanent housing solutions.
With facilities in Sequim, Port Angeles, and Forks, Washington, Serenity House serves almost 3,400 individuals per year and is the largest provider of homeless services in a rural community with 77,805 residents and a poverty rate of 15.3%. Serenity House is the Washington Commerce mandated Coordinated Entry lead for Clallam County and oversees management of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). This is normally a function assumed by county leadership that allows Serenity House to provide integrated services at a single location without sending clients to multiple different agencies on their path to housing stability. As Coordinated Entry Lead, Serenity House subgrants funds from the state Consolidated Homeless Grant to three organizations that provide shelter and services to veterans and clients fleeing domestic violence.
As the Washington Commerce regulatory compliance provider with other non-government county service agencies providing housing related services in Clallam County, Serenity House adheres to RCW-49-60 policy. This means that Serenity House does not discriminate based on race, creed, color, national origin, families with children, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, age, honorably discharged veteran or military status, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability or the use of a trained guide dog or service animal by a person with a disability for any of its activities or operations. In all programs Serenity House strives to provide inclusive services and coordinates with five local tribes to deliver culturally informed programs to clients.
