The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promote historic preservation, patriotism, and educational ideas in communites across this nation and in overseas chapters. DAR is a service organization. It's members are encouraged to perform and record their volunteer service efforts. Our members perform all types of local community service. These projects include annual wreath laying ceremonies on veterans' graves, historical preservation projects, veteran support projects, promotion of literacy and education through local library and school projects and scholarships, and assisting local communities with projects like food and clothing drives.
