pper Room Rehabilitation Services – Charity Description
Upper Room Rehabilitation Services is a California nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring hope, dignity, and self-sufficiency for individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty, addiction, unemployment, food insecurity, and other life challenges throughout Santa Clara County.
For more than 35 years, our leadership has served vulnerable populations through community outreach, recovery support, education, and workforce development. Our mission is to Educate, Empower, and Engage people by providing practical resources, supportive relationships, and opportunities that help them build stable, independent, and meaningful lives.
We believe that lasting transformation requires more than meeting immediate needs. While emergency food and essential resources are critical, true recovery occurs when individuals are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, life skills, and vocational opportunities necessary to achieve long-term independence. Our holistic approach addresses the physical, emotional, social, and economic barriers that often prevent people from moving forward.
Our Programs
Food Assistance
We operate food assistance and community pantry programs that provide nutritious food and essential household items to individuals, seniors, veterans, families, and people experiencing homelessness. Emergency food distributions help stabilize individuals and reduce hunger while creating opportunities to connect participants with additional supportive services.
Recovery Support
Our recovery services assist individuals seeking freedom from alcohol, drug, and prescription medication addiction. Through peer support, recovery meetings, mentoring, accountability, and community encouragement, participants receive practical tools that promote long-term recovery, healthier relationships, and renewed purpose.
Life Skills Development
Participants receive instruction and mentoring in budgeting, communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, goal setting, stress management, personal responsibility, decision-making, and problem-solving. These essential life skills strengthen confidence and prepare individuals for independent living.
Digital Literacy
Many of the individuals we serve have limited experience using computers or the internet. We provide instruction in basic computer skills, email, online job applications, résumé preparation, virtual interviews, and accessing community resources, helping bridge the digital divide.
Employment Readiness and Workforce Development
We prepare participants for meaningful employment through résumé development, interview preparation, career coaching, job readiness training, and connections to employers and vocational opportunities. We are also developing an Electrical Trade Center that will provide practical technical training and apprenticeship pathways leading to sustainable careers in the skilled trades.
Supportive Services
Many participants face barriers beyond unemployment or housing instability. We provide transportation assistance, referrals, case support, mentoring, emergency assistance, resource navigation, and individualized guidance that help participants overcome obstacles and remain engaged in their personal goals.
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is that people should never be defined by their current circumstances. Every individual possesses value, dignity, and potential. Whether someone is experiencing homelessness, recovering from addiction, living in poverty, or rebuilding after a personal crisis, they deserve opportunities to restore their lives with hope and purpose.
Rather than simply addressing immediate symptoms, Upper Room Rehabilitation Services seeks to break cycles of dependency by equipping individuals with the tools necessary for long-term success. Our model combines compassion with accountability, helping participants move from crisis toward stability, employment, permanent housing, and meaningful participation in their communities.
Our pathway includes:
• Immediate stabilization through food and supportive services
• Recovery support and emotional healing
• Life-skills education
• Digital literacy and employment readiness
• Vocational training and apprenticeship opportunities
• Employment and increased financial independence
• Permanent housing and community integration

Community Impact
Upper Room Rehabilitation Services works collaboratively with community organizations, volunteers, local businesses, recovery groups, and public agencies to maximize available resources and improve outcomes for those we serve.
Each year, our programs provide food assistance to hundreds of individuals while supporting participants through recovery, life-skills education, workforce preparation, and supportive services that promote long-term stability. Many of our volunteers have personally overcome homelessness, addiction, or other significant life challenges, allowing them to offer compassionate peer support and serve as living examples of hope and transformation.
Our Vision
Our vision is to build stronger communities by helping vulnerable individuals become healthy, productive, and engaged members of society. We believe sustainable change occurs when emergency assistance is combined with education, recovery, practical skill development, meaningful employment, and supportive relationships.
Through partnerships with businesses, foundations, volunteers, and community organizations, Upper Room Rehabilitation Services continues to create opportunities that restore dignity, strengthen families, reduce dependency, and empower individuals to build brighter futures.
Every meal served, every recovery milestone achieved, every new skill learned, and every job secured represents another step toward lasting transformation. By educating, empowering, and engaging those we serve, we are building lives, restoring hope, and strengthening our community, one person at a time.
