Moonstar Charitable Organization (MCO) is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to reducing food insecurity and strengthening communities through the power of multicultural meals, volunteerism, and community partnerships.
Our mission is to inspire, create, and promote multicultural meals, programs, and support to underserved communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We believe that food is more than nourishment—it is comfort, dignity, culture, and connection.
Founded in 2019 and fully launched in 2023, Moonstar Charitable Organization was inspired by the legacy of Moonstar Buffet, a beloved family-owned restaurant that served the Bay Area for nearly three decades. Building upon that tradition of hospitality and service, MCO transforms donated ingredients into freshly prepared meals for seniors, low-income families, children, veterans, individuals experiencing homelessness, and other vulnerable populations.
Working from our commercial kitchen in South San Francisco, we collaborate with food banks, housing communities, schools, senior centers, and nonprofit organizations to ensure meals reach those who need them most. Through these partnerships, we are able to prepare culturally familiar meals that reflect the diverse communities we serve.
In 2024 alone, Moonstar Charitable Organization provided more than 88,000 meals through partnerships with over 25 community organizations. Today, we continue to expand our impact by serving nearly 2,000 meals each week across the Bay Area.
Our programs support a wide range of community needs, including:
• Senior nutrition and wellness programs

• Food support for transitional housing and shelter residents
• Holiday meal distributions and community celebrations
• Volunteer opportunities that bring people together through service
• Educational and community engagement programs centered around food, culture, and connection
One of the things that makes Moonstar unique is our ability to produce high-quality meals efficiently and at scale. Through strategic partnerships and volunteer support, approximately $1 can help provide one nutritious meal to someone in need.
Every donation helps us purchase ingredients, prepare meals, expand community partnerships, support volunteer initiatives, and reach more individuals facing food insecurity.
