Black Lives Matter Literacy

by KEYSTONE DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Keystone Development Center offers a summer literacy program for struggling readers that are unable to read at grade-level as identified by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. This project is looking to integrate literacy and history with the book One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia. The story is set during the era of the Black Panthers and Civil Rights Movement in Oakland California. With your help, students will be introduced to culture and history while increasing their reading comprehension skills. We would like to purchase 50 books at approximately $12 each plus taxes. At the completion of the novel study, students will be given the book to add to their personal library.
