Workforce Development

by DEFEATING EPILEPSY FOUNDATION

The Defeating Epilepsy Foundation is working with individuals with neurological and neurodivergent conditions to help them gain access to resources and prepare them for gainful employment.

Currently, in the United States, three million American adults have been diagnosed with epilepsy. Only one million have drug-resistant epilepsy, which qualifies them for disability assistance. The other two million are controlled and do not qualify for disability. However, they still face the same stigma, and many are underemployed or unemployed due to the discrimination they face in employment.

Many people with neurodivergent conditions such as ADHD and autism face the same challenges in the workforce. Many are gifted and excel at their work. However, due to challenges with communication or overstimulation, many face challenges finding gainful employment or finding an environment that they can work in.

We are working with career coaches and disability organizations to help people gain the skills they need to be in the workforce, help build their confidence, and give them the resources needed to find gainful employment and succeed in life. Many studies from organizations have shown that people with disabilities are some of the hardest and most loyal employees because when someone gives them a chance to show their capabilities and potential, they give 100 percent. They just need someone to believe in them and see past their disabilities.

Along with helping individuals, we are hosting educational events to educate local businesses about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities. We are working with community developers to get many organizations involved and show how important it is to give people with disabilities and differences the chance that they deserve to have a good quality of life.
