JAZZ SOCIETY OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY INC

Greens Farms, Connecticut

The Organization has been formed to enrich the cultural life of Fairfield County by promoting the performance and appreciation of Jazz music through: a) the presentation of free or low cost concerts by accomplished artists; b) outreach to under-served audiences for such music; c) the provision of educational and performance opportunities for student, amateur and emerging professional musicians; and d) other appropriate activities that serve to increase public appreciation of our Jazz music heritage. The Jazz Society is also committed to the maintenance and preservation of its historic 1937 Steinway Model M grand piano, formerly the house piano at the famous Village Gate jazz club in New York City, which has been played by an extensive list of iconic jazz musicians and inspires the Organization’s efforts.

We provide weekly performances by world-class professional jazz musicians at our local VFW Post, at very low cost to our audiences, enabling attendance by those who could not afford to attend similar events in for-profit commercial venues. These musicians also lead free clinics for student musicians and give free performances at alternative venues for underserved audiences in our county. We award scholarships to enable deserving students to pursue higher education in music performance, composition and education. We also contribute to selected nonprofit organizations with which we partner to provide these services. Our fundraising and your donations ensure the continuity of these programs.
