TAYLORVILLE, IL.Convoy of Hope deployed two truckloads of supplies on Sunday morning to Taylorville, Illinois, in response to the tornado that struck the town. Convoy is working with local partners and churches to distribute food, water, hygiene kits and other disaster relief supplies.

The tornado damaged more than 500 structures in Taylorville and injured more than 20 people. Preliminary reports rate the tornado as a high-end EF2, with estimated winds of 120 to 130 mph and a width of half a mile.

According to Stacy Lamb, Convoy of Hope’s senior director of U.S. disaster response, one of the biggest needs at this time is tarping roofs. “Convoy will be able to provide tarps to both homeowners and other response partners who will be installing them,” he says. “In addition, we have connected with Taylorville Christian Church, and they will be positioned to act as a hub for resources to the community in the coming days.”
