SITUATION
1.2 million unwanted dogs are killed each year in the U.S. When a specially-selected shelter dog from an animal shelter is properly rehabilitated and trained, though, a RESCUE DOG can save lives, working asa SERVICE DOGfor a child or adult with either severe PTSD, autism, seizures, and another disability.
PAWSITIVITY’S AWARD-WINNING APPROACH
Pawsitivity Service Dogs is a 501(c)(3) that helps both dogs and people simultaneously. We are a nonprofit charity that works with animal shelters and dog rescues across the nation to rescue dogs and then train these shelter dogs as service dogs. We believe these dogs should not be killed, but should be rehabilitated and trained. Help us in our mission--medical studies demonstrate that service and therapy dogs can be an effective tool in the treatment and management of chronic disabilities.
THIS PROJECT
Help fund the rescue, training, and outfitting of a “Newfie,” - a Newfoundland who will work as hero service dog and change the life of someone with a disability. We generally work with Golden Retrievers and Labrador Regreivers, but Newfoundland dogs are so large that they are especially good at working with children with autism. The breed’s large size helps keep the child safe from “bolting” when the dog is trained to respond to the parents and not to the child when they are tethered together.
Your donation to this project is 100% deductible to the full extent allowed, and will go to helping rescue and train an amazing Newfoundland dog to work as a service dog!
