High Desert Second Chance is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to addressing the pressing issue of food insecurity within our local community. With a range of well-structured programs, we strive to meet the diverse needs of those we serve.
**Senior Food Pantry:** For individuals aged 65 and older, our Senior Food Pantry provides essential food services once a week, from Monday to Thursday, between 10 am and 3 pm. A valid photo ID is required to access this support.
**Veterans Emergency Food Pantry:** Recognizing the sacrifice and service of veterans, we offer the Veterans Emergency Food Pantry. Veterans with proof of service, such as a DD214, military ID, or discharge papers, can receive assistance once a week, Monday through Thursday, from 10 am to 3 pm. A photo ID is necessary for access.
**Residential Food Pantry:** Clients under the age of 65 and who are not veterans can access our Residential Food Pantry. This program allows individuals to receive a food box once every 30 days. Each registered address is limited to one client. Operating Monday through Thursday from 10 am to 3 pm, a photo ID is required to access this service.
**USDA FOOD DISTRIBUTION:** We proudly participate in the federally funded USDA Food Distribution program, providing staple commodities to residents of the High Desert. This program takes place every last Thursday of the month, except for November and December when it occurs on the 3rd Thursday due to holidays.
**Homeless Services:** Recognizing the unique needs of those without a permanent residence, our Homeless Services program offers daily supplies of non-perishable goods and hygiene products. We also provide clothing and blankets upon request, and no documentation is required to receive these essential services.
**Saturday Open Market Food Distribution:** Every Saturday, regardless of the weather, our Saturday Open Market Food Distribution welcomes anyone in need within the High Desert region. Individuals can drive through and receive a free basket of food supplies or visit our market to support our programs through donations.
**High Desert Food Collaborative:** Our High Desert Food Collaborative program comprises 75 local non-profit agencies, including feeding agencies, churches, community service providers, health care facilities, recovery programs, homeless shelters, and college food pantries. These agencies pick up supplies from High Desert Second Chance Food Bank on a regular basis, distributing them to clients within their respective regions. Partners of the High Desert Food Collaborative work together as a network to maximize their impact on the communities they serve. **No Food Goes to Waste Program:** In a commitment to environmental sustainability, we established the "No Food Goes to Waste" program. This initiative was born from the realization that non-edible food supplies were being discarded into dumpsters. Recognizing the value of these supplies for livestock owners, ranchers, and local farmers, we began recycling non-edible fruits and vegetables to benefit our farming community. This not only supports local agriculture but also reduces our carbon footprint by diverting items from landfills.
