WERLA Critical Care and Rehabilitation Expansion Project

by WILDLIFE EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION OF LOUISIANA INC

WERLA needs support to improve and expand the medical and rehabilitation equipment we use to care for injured and orphaned wildlife in Louisiana and East Texas. As wildlife cases increase, we urgently need updated equipment, better recovery spaces, and essential medical systems to give animals in crisis a higher level of care.

Our x-ray machine needs major repairs and upgrades, which limits our ability to diagnose fractures, injuries, and internal trauma in rescued wildlife. Reliable imaging equipment is essential for creating treatment plans and improving survival rates for injured animals in our care.

WERLA also hopes to get oxygen therapy recovery units, including special oxygen-controlled kennels and cages. These are used to stabilize wildlife suffering from trauma, breathing problems, shock, smoke inhalation, neurological issues, and severe injuries. Controlled oxygen environments can greatly improve an animal's chance of survival during the most critical stages of recovery.

This project would also let WERLA upgrade old rehabilitation cages and recovery enclosures. These improvements would create a safer, cleaner, and more effective healing space for wildlife in our care. Better housing helps reduce stress, prevent injuries, support recovery, and prepare animals for a successful release back into the wild.
With more funding, we could expand our freezer storage to safely keep special diets and medical supplies for the hundreds of animals we care for each year. Proper food storage is vital to meeting the nutritional needs of wildlife in rehabilitation.

As a nonprofit wildlife rescue, WERLA relies heavily on community support, donations, and volunteers to keep providing lifesaving care. Every contribution to this project directly supports wildlife rehabilitation and helps give injured animals a second chance at survival and release into their natural habitats.

Through upgraded medical equipment, improved recovery spaces, and expanded regabilitation resouces, WERLA can continue advancing its mission of rescue, rehabilitation, education, and compassionate wildlife care for Louisiana's wildlife.
