Providing warming items and services to the homeless and at risk and homeless Veteran population
by SUB ZERO MISSIONThe Sub Zero Mission provides warming items to individuals experiencing homelessness, with a special emphasis on homeless and at-risk Veterans. We believe nobody should freeze to death in America. Through our Homeless Veteran Re-Empowerment Program (HVRP), we go beyond emergency assistance by finding Veterans, bringing them home, housing them, advocating for them, employing them, and empowering them until they regain the stability, dignity, and purpose they deserve. As a Veteran-founded nonprofit organization, we stand beside those who once stood for us by providing not only warmth and immediate support, but also a clear path toward long-term recovery and self-sufficiency.
Project Description/Target Population: To address the needs of the homeless and homeless and at-risk veteran populations, by distributing warming items to keep them safe during the cold winter months and implementing the Homeless Veteran Re-Empowerment Program for homeless veterans that will deliver a coordinated set of services focused on treatment, employment, housing and transportation.
Problem Statement: As temperatures drop during the winter months, homeless individuals and veterans face life-threatening conditions due to exposure to cold weather. A significant number of homeless and at risk veterans lack the necessary support to achieve long-term stability and reintegration into society. As a result, many veterans remain in a cycle of homelessness and instability due to drug, alcohol and mental health issues, despite their eligibility for various support programs.
Objectives:
1. Immediate relief by distributing warming items during the Mission season of November to April
2. Enhanced Outreach to ensure that these items reach those in greatest need
3. Homeless Veteran Re-Empowerment Program (HVRP) to provide homeless and at risk veterans access to treatment, employment, housing, transportation and foster their reintegration into society.
Activities:
1. Item Procurement and distribution logistics: Secure and purchase warming items and coordinate missions to ensure efficient delivery of items to those in need.
2. Monitoring and Evaluation: Track the distribution process, items distributed and locations of found individuals
3. Homeless Veteran Re-Empowerment Program: Address the critical areas of treatment, employment, housing, and transportation, to support successful reintegration into civilian life.
Expected Outcomes:
1. Increased Safety and well being: Enhance comfort, safety and quality of life for homeless individuals and homeless veterans during winter.
2. Stronger Community Support: Increased community awareness addressing homelessness and veteran populations.
3. Homeless Veteran Re-Empowerment Program: Increased access to mental health/substance abuse treatment, employment, housing and transportation leading to improved health and well-being among participating veterans.
Sustainability Plan: To ensure the long-term impact of The Sub Zero Mission’s initiative:
1. Establish Ongoing Partnerships: Build and strengthen relationships with local businesses, community and volunteers for sustained support and resource acquisition.
2. Evaluate and Adapt: Regularly assess the effectiveness of our programs and adjust based on feedback and evolving needs.
Budget Overview: The total budget for The Sub Zero Mission’s initiative is $255,000. This includes costs for item procurement, distribution logistics, community outreach, monitoring and evaluation, treatment services, housing, workforce development, transportation and day to day operations.
Conclusion: The Sub Zero Missions effort is to address the urgent needs of homeless individuals and at risk veterans by providing essential warming items and fostering community support. Furthermore, addressing the needs of homeless and at risk veterans requires a multifaceted approach that integrates housing, mental health services, employment support, and case management. By creating a centralized, coordinated support system, we can close the gaps in services and provide veterans with the tools they need to overcome homelessness and reintegrate successfully into society.
