DAUGHTERS OF HERITAGE AND FREEDOM I NC

Daughters of Heritage and Freedom, Inc., doing business as Descendants of Heritage and Freedom (DHF), is a Connecticut-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, documenting, and sharing the history and legacy of African Americans who served during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and their descendants.
Through historical research, genealogy, digital and archival preservation, education, and public engagement, DHF works to recover and make accessible stories that have often been overlooked or underrepresented in traditional historical narratives. Our work includes documenting Black Revolutionary War soldiers, members of the United States Colored Troops (USCT), their families, and the generations who carry their legacies forward.
With a particular focus on Connecticut and New England, DHF serves descendants, families, educators, students, researchers, and the broader public. We provide educational and genealogical resources, promote the preservation of family and community history, develop public-history programming, and create opportunities for individuals to connect their own family stories to the larger American historical record.
By connecting genealogy, preservation, and education, DHF seeks not only to document the past but to ensure that these histories remain accessible, meaningful, and relevant for future generations.
