The animal welfare system was built to catch pets at the end of the story, after a family has already lost their home, run out of money, or run out of options. By then the only door left is the shelter. We believe most of that is preventable. Families do not surrender pets because they stopped loving them. They surrender because the cost of a spay surgery, a vet bill, a pet deposit, or a single hard month became more than they could carry. AAF works upstream to solve those problems before surrender becomes the only choice.
Our programs:
Spay/Neuter Access. We fund low-cost spay and neuter surgeries through partner clinics, the most permanent and cost-effective way to keep animals out of shelters in the first place.
The Bridge. Short-term emergency help that keeps a family and their pet together through a crisis: pet food, transportation, emergency vet care, temporary foster, and housing support.
Pet Help Desk. A triage line families can call before they reach the point of surrender. We listen, find the real problem, and connect them to the right resource.
Foster-to-Train, Adoption Boost, and Sniff and Greet. Programs that move animals into the right homes and support adopters so pets stay home for good.
The Animal Welfare Resource Network (AWRN). The shared infrastructure that connects shelters, rescues, veterinary clinics, landlords, and community organizations onto one platform, so the whole network can help a family instead of duplicating work or losing track of them.
What your gift does. Donations fund real, measurable outcomes: a surgery that prevents a litter, a tank of gas that gets a pet to a clinic, a month of food that keeps a cat home, a phone call that catches a family before they reach the shelter doors. Every dollar goes to keeping pets with the people who love them.
Animal-Angels Foundation is led by founder BJ Adkins, a disabled veteran building prevention infrastructure that started in Central Alabama and is spreading to communities nationwide. We do not compete with shelters and rescues. We connect and strengthen them by reducing the intake that overwhelms them.
