Many families experiencing high-conflict separation, coercive control, or mental health concerns encounter a system that lacks standardized risk assessment, trauma-informed practices, and early case differentiation. As a result, children may experience disrupted attachment, unstable caregiving environments, and prolonged exposure to conflict. NFJ works to reduce these harms by providing parent support, professional training, and evidence-based models for court triage and case management. Our goal is to strengthen parent-child relationships, improve the consistency and safety of custody outcomes, and support the adoption of data-driven reforms that protect children and promote family stability.

2. Professional Training and Capacity Building - NFJ develops and delivers training for judges, attorneys, evaluators, guardians ad litem, clinicians, and child welfare professionals. Training emphasizes trauma-informed practice, attachment science, coercive control identification, and evidence-based approaches to preserving parent-child relationships.

Family Court Triage and Systems Reform - NFJ provides technical assistance and implementation support for jurisdictions seeking to adopt early case differentiation and standardized response frameworks. This includes guidance on workflow design, screening models, and judicial decision-support tools that improve consistency and reduce case backlogs.

Clinical Risk Assessment Initiative - NFJ works with behavioral health professionals and court stakeholders to promote the use of validated clinical risk assessments in cases involving allegations of domestic violence, psychological harm, or impaired caregiving. NFJ’s first‑year budget of 41,505 dollars balanced start‑up infrastructure, volunteer training, and program delivery while maintaining positive net assets. NFJ trained 11 trauma‑informed, client‑facing volunteers who helped more than 500 families in 10 months, demonstrating that each trained volunteer can support dozens of families annually when programs are adequately resourced.
