Community gardens are living, breathing projects! Hermitage Street Gardens was established in 2011, and in the spring of 2015 the garden was reborn with new raised vegetable beds, walking paths and a large patio with a central pergola. Engineering students and instructor from Lindblom Math and Science Academy partnered with the garden to help transform the garden and an adjacent parking lot into a meditation garden for veterans. The Gardens provide education, helping build the community with healthy living in urban agriculture giving old and young alike the chance to get their hands in the soil and enjoy nature in the community.
Our Gardens are supported by Neighborspace the only nonprofit urban land trust in Chicago that preserves and sustains gardens on behalf of community dedicated garden groups. Through your generous donor assistance the Gardens were developed and are sustained.
