Paws at Home is a veteran-led, foster-based animal rescue dedicated to reducing the number of homeless dogs and cats in the Southern United States—where animal overpopulation, limited resources, and overcrowded shelters place thousands of pets at risk each year. Founded on a deep commitment to service, compassion, and community, Paws at Home exists to give vulnerable animals a second chance at life while supporting the people who step up to care for them.
We rescue animals from high-risk situations, including overcrowded shelters, neglect, abandonment, and crisis circumstances. Once in our care, animals receive necessary veterinary treatment, vaccinations, spay and neuter services, proper nutrition, and emotional support. Rather than operating a traditional shelter, Paws at Home places animals into carefully screened foster homes, where they can heal in a safe, loving environment and receive individualized attention that significantly improves health and adoption outcomes.
Our foster-based model not only saves lives but also strengthens communities by empowering families to participate in rescue without bearing the full financial burden. Donations directly fund medical care, food, and supplies for foster families, allowing more households to say “yes” to fostering and keeping animals out of overcrowded facilities. This approach reduces stress on local shelters, lowers euthanasia risk, and creates a smoother transition into permanent homes.
As a veteran-led organization, Paws at Home is grounded in values of service, integrity, and accountability. Many of our supporters, fosters, and volunteers are veterans, military families, and community members who believe in continuing a life of service through compassionate action. We are proud to build bridges between animal welfare and community support, recognizing the healing power of the human–animal bond.
