PROJECT ON YOUTH AND NON-MILITARY OPPORTUNITIES

ENCINITAS, California

Founded in San Diego County, California, in 1984, our mission is to address social and economic factors that make low-income communities disproportionately vulnerable to military recruitment and militarization, while simultaneously working to increase youth involvement in social change activism. In pursuing this mission, we seek to increase student awareness of the realities of war, inform them about non-military college and career alternatives, and support student and community organizing to resist the impact of war and militarism on their lives.

We are a mostly volunteer non-profit organization with a multi-generational board and diverse pool of volunteers. Project YANO does direct outreach to schools and young people in San Diego County, while also training organizers and providing resources for similar efforts nationwide. Most of our key educational materials are bi-lingual (Spanish/English).

Our work is accomplished with the help of military veterans, students, parents and others who volunteer their time.
