Project School Snack Pantry

by ST JOHNS CARES INC

With assistance of the St. Johns County School District, a school with a high level of students with food insecurities was identified. Studies have shown that children & teens need food every 4 hours to function well in school. Students with food insecurities tend to be more absent or tardy, do not engage in class, feel different from their peers and have more behavioral problems. Starting in the 2023-2024 academic school year, a car load of snacks is delivered to the selected high school each month. The students in need are responding well to the Snack Pantry with positive effect on attendance, engagement in class and overall school performance. As donations allow, additional schools with high levels of students with food insecurities will be added.
