Over the last 27 years we have helped veterans over 100,000 times. I would like to make you aware of our project called Heroes' Passage, A Retreat for Veterans. It is an exciting development to be built on 110.5 acres of Appalachian territory in Kentucky near Olive Hill.
The mission of Heroes' Passage will be to help disadvantaged and hurting veterans transition to civilian life. A study in the Journal Archives of General Psychiatry found that one in 10 Iraq war vets develop serious mental problems, including violent behavior, depression and alcohol abuse. The goal is to help lost vets get their lives back, and be a "beacon of hope"!
We plan to teach agricultural skills over a 6-month program. Other plans include a man made 4-5 acre lake for Aquaponics and Pisciculture operations. We will also incorporate Animal Assisted Therapy using shelter animals. There will be a central C.O.R.E. (counseling, offices, recreation, and eatery) building, a Tribute Garden, and a Chapel.
Nearby our property, agriculture under glass has opened greenhouses that are projected to produce more than 100,000 lbs. of tomatoes. Kentucky will soon be a leading force in Agricultural Technology and will be an incubator for the planned twelve Mega Greenhouses to be built there in the next five years. There will be close to 1,000 acres of greenhouses in that region. They will be employing an astounding 3000 - 4,000 Ag-techs. Heroes' Passage could be a spring board for 10% or more of those jobs.
The project needs the total infrastructure built, plus some 80 buildings (60 of those are individual cabins for program clients), and our own Incubator greenhouse. We will offer naming rights for the CORE Center and Veteran's Cabins. Initial costs begin at $500,000 to develop the Business Plan, bring on a Project Manager and begin the roads.
