High School Mentorship Program

by CHINMAYA MISSION SAN DIEGO

Every Sunday students from High School classes 10,11 and 12 meet for an hour with a mentor and work on projects that deal with key Climate Change issues. These are multi-year student led projects in collaboration with Zero Degree Collaboratory at Stanford University. The mentors assist in finding appropriate people and resources that are required by the project team. Skills such as leadership, communication, project management and how to document their research are discussed as necessary.
The students have established clubs at Del Norte High School and Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego called Zero Degree Laboratories. Other students from these high schools are recruited to contribute to these projects.
They also organize service projects such as collecting food and clothing during the holidays and distribute them through Interfaith Community Services in Escondido, CA.
