WATSONVILLE COMMUNITY BAND

Watsonville Community Band is in its 78th year having begun in 1947. We provide a musical and cultural connection for youth ages 7-18 and adults 19-90. We are a band of 70 musicians and 30 student musicians. We perform concerts for all ages in our community without charge. We play a broad mix of musical genres. We bring instrumental music to youth, encouraging a safe place to learn how to play an instrument, gain confidence, and practice leadership in a team building effort. Once in high school, young players are eligible to play in the adult band taking on full responsibilities for rehearsal and performances. Committed to bringing music to our youth, we hold weekly Youth Band rehearsals culminating in public performances. Extending further WCB holds the Summer Youth Band with twice weekly rehearsals resulting in a Watsonville Library performance. All efforts of WCB are completed by volunteers, including Youth Band teachers, musicians, and conductors. Donations and fundraising for WCB are essential to provide instruments and repairs, stands, sheet music, supplies, uniforms, publicity, program development, venue fees, equipment rental, printing of programs and newsletters, youth band expenses, liability insurance and operational expenses. In 2025, WCB will perform 15 concerts in the California Central Coast area including 5 parades in the local community. We will have performed for 3,900 in concerts, and 35,000 in parades this season. We play for many different people in many different locations in the county. We have a strong commitment to play for our Veterans and Memorial Day programs. We encourage music in our schools and enjoy combined concerts with our high school band programs. Music is essential to each individual. With much effort, many are gifted with new musical experiences as we share our talented musicians within our community.
