Serenity House Family Residence

by AFRICAN AMERICAN PLANNING COMMISSION INC

Serenity House Family Residence, a transitional (Tier II) residence, which began in 2005, provides 40 independent living apartments for homeless survivors of domestic violence and their dependent children. Serenity House is one of the very few domestic violence shelters in New York City that accepts male survivors of domestic violence with their dependent children. Program residents are referred to the facility by NYC Human Resources Administration's (HRA) Office of Domestic Violence and Emergency Intervention Services (ODVEIS). The program’s goal is to prepare residents for independent living within or outside the community. The maximum length of stay is generally limited to six months. The program provides case management services, mental health counseling and referrals, housing placement assistance, job search assistance, substance abuse support services, infant and child care services, as well as after school program services.
