Pal-O-Mine Equestrian began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. Pal-O-Mine has grown to be one of the leading equine therapy centers in the Northeast. We operate a full-time program and support 23 program horses and other livestock on a 13-acre facility located in Islandia, in Suffolk County, New York., serving over 400 individuals weekly.
Pal-O-Mine currently offers: Adaptive Horseback Riding; Unmounted Horsemanship; Hippotherapy; Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning; Military Program; Vocational Training; Equine Science; Virtual Program; Corporate Workshops and a Volunteer Program. Our populations include children and adults with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military and the economically compromised. Our programs serve children as young as 18-months of age through adults into their 90's. Participants in our programs include individuals with cognitive, physical, emotional and psychological needs and can include those diagnosed with: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, Personality Disorders, Optional Defiant Disorder, Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, among many others disorders or needs. Our vocational program targets individuals that have special needs that are unemployed/underemployed and in need of an alternative job training program.
Volunteers are an integral part of our program and over 80 volunteers give freely of their time. They believe in their community and share in the humanitarian spirit that lives at Pal-O-Mine. Pal-O-Mine, in turn, improves not only the lives of our students but strives to improve the quality of life among volunteers as well.
